Let There Be Solar Power and Light: Genesis Co-Sponsors SUN DAY 2025

On Sunday, September 21, Genesis of Ann Arbor will join faith-based communities across Washtenaw County to mark SUN DAY, a Multifaith Day of Climate Hope and Inspiration.

Our local event is part of a national SUN DAY climate initiative. Across the country, congregations, grassroots groups, and local leaders will gather to “celebrate the power of clean energy and push for the transformation we know is possible.” It’s a chance to amp up what we're already doing — expanding solar installations, making efficiency upgrades, and planting resilient gardens — while also standing together to resist the forces that seek to stall climate progress, including new federal roadblocks erected by the current administration.

The clean energy revolution is here. Solar, wind and batteries are the cheapest form of power on the planet, lowering costs, creating new jobs, and strengthening our communities. But some politicians and industries are trying to hold it back. On Sep 21, we’ll celebrate the progress we’ve made and push for more.

Locally, SUN Day will feature words and music from multiple traditions, spotlighting the excellent work of Washtenaw County congregations that have made climate justice a central part of their mission.

This will be a fantastic opportunity to get to know Shoshannah Lenski, the new executive director of the Ann Arbor Sustainable Energy Utility (SEU). Ann Arbor voters authorized the establishment of the SEU in November, 2024, in order to deliver 100% renewable, locally-generated electricity to homes and businesses that opt-in. It's a model for how communities can lead when larger systems falter.

Our own Murray Rosenthal of the Genesis Green Team will be among several other featured speakers at the event.

Genesis is proud to co-sponsor this event as part of our guiding principle of responsible stewardship of our environment. From our rain-garden work to energy-saving building upgrades and installations, Genesis has sought practical, hopeful ways to live out that promise. SUN Day gives us a wider stage to say, along with others in the interfaith community, that caring for creation is inseparable from caring for one another.

“Let there be solar power and light!” Join us for this hopeful day, and add your voice to the chorus affirming that faith, community, and climate action belong together.
