Genesis Invites Nominations for the 2026 Humanitarian Award

Every two years, Genesis recognizes an individual or organization whose service reflects the values at the heart of our partnership. Nominations are now open for the 2026 Genesis Humanitarian Award, which will be presented at this year's Erev Thanksgiving Service.

The award honors those whose actions embody the Genesis vision: embracing mutual trust, respect, and appreciation of all people while living the ideals of faith and inclusiveness to help heal a broken world.

Past recipients have included leaders within our congregations, community organizations, and individuals whose dedication to service has strengthened both Genesis and the wider Ann Arbor community.

The most recent recipient was the Halbert family, recognized in 2024 for founding Garrett's Space. Previous honorees have included Josh Whinston, Christine Modey, JFS Refugee Services, Back Door Food Pantry, Bob Milstein, Irene Butter, Richard Bailey, James Schairbaum, Judge Sandy Elden, Phil Bowen, Jackie Moore, Bob Levy, and Doug Evett.

Nominating Instructions

A nomination for the Genesis Humanitarian Award consists of the following documentation:

• A letter of nomination proposing the candidate which provides biographical and professional background as well as documentation of actions which exemplify the Genesis vision, deserving recognition by our faith communities.

• Additional letters of support from others supporting the nomination are encouraged.

Nominations will be accepted until Friday, October 16, 2026.
