A Clean Start with our New Dishwasher

We’re thrilled to share some shining news: Genesis of Ann Arbor has a brand-new commercial dishwasher!

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we were able to replace our aging, leaky unit with a top-of-the-line Hobart AM16 Base Door Type commercial dishwasher. This is a major upgrade that ensures we can continue to support the many events and gatherings in our Social Hall that make our building our community home.

Our old Hobart AM14 dishwasher, installed in 1994 at the time our new sanctuary was built, served us well for over 30 years. But by early 2024, it had become corroded and had begun to leak. It was no longer able to heat water enough to pass a health code inspection. Despite the heroic efforts of our capable staff to fix it with difficult to acquire parts, we ultimately recognized that it was beyond repair.

With a limited budget, Genesis always aims to repair rather than replace—but in this case, the old dishwasher had spun its last cycle.

Thanks to generous support from donors, we were able to cover the nearly $20,000 cost of this essential equipment. The Rust Family Foundation awarded Genesis a $10,000 grant toward this cost, the Women of TBE committed $5,000, and the TBE Brotherhood committed another $3,000. In April, the Genesis board approved spending $1,840 to cover the balance. The new dishwasher was ordered in June, was installed in July, and is now ready to serve.

A reliable commercial dishwasher may not sound glamorous—but for us it is vital. It makes possible everything from celebrations of our congregants’ and renters’ lifecycle events to being able to break bread together for holidays, to simply the many day-to-day gatherings that bring us together to enjoy food and drink.

We extend deep gratitude to our donors for investing in the heart of our shared space.
